Okinawa... had we known better, we would would have spent more time there!

May 24, 2016

Wait? We are in Japan? This was our reaction when we arrived in Okinawa. We stayed in Chatan area, where a lot of the american military bases are. It's all in english, american village looks like somewhere in california and all you se is western people. It's really strange. By coincidence, or God wishes, we were just a few blocks from our friends from Tokashiki and they were so nice that they took us out for dinner and played tourist guide. The kids were so happy to have other kids to play with (Teresinha keeps asking why we are alone and where are our friends). The first day we went to Arahan beach, there's a pirate ship playground, and we needed a calm day to rest. We spent the day between the beach and the park, kids loved it. Although we have a great aquarium in Lisbon we wanted to check the Churaumi Aquarium (they have 3 wale sharks!) and it was great to see it with our friends, their kids are amazing and they knew all the fishes and plants names. We were really impressed. We had the most delicious burger in a cool place on the way back. Captain Kangaroo Restaurant is top!
It really makes a difference to be in a place with people that live or know the place really well, you get to know a lot about the place and don't end up in the same places as all the tourists. Specially if you only have a pair of days to know a city. Michelle and Lee, if you're reading this and you happen to go to Portugal or Spain, please email us...we own you one. Thank you very much!
Our absolute favourite of Okinawa was the Wonder Museum. It's in the zoo, but don't bother visiting the zoo, its depressing! If you ever go to Okinawa don't miss this museum, its amazing!

Espera? Estamos no Japão?

A very useful site if you decide to go to Okinawa: http://okinawahai.com / Um site muito util se alguma vez quiserem ir a Okinawa
I Forgot to mention that we rented a super house (super cheap and huge for what we are used to) that was Pokemon themed! Pokemons all over LOL
