The heat and humidity… We like that!

January 20, 2017

After an endless flight we finally made it to Thailand! That first breath of air when you get out of the airport is incredible, you get all sticky after a few seconds out. I love that feeling!
Although it was 3 AM and we had barely slept in the last 24 hours we were very excited, the kids didn’t know but there was a huge surprise waiting for them at the hotel… We arrived at the hotel and knocked on a room, we heard a familiar voice and the kids started to jump up and down. Grandma was there! Francisco and Teresa wrote a letter to Santa asking him to bring grandma in the bag, so the first comment was: “Santa got our letter, you are here! Is it Christmas yet?”, “How did you fit in the bag?”. We couldn’t stop laughing…
After sleeping a few hours we were ready for Bangkok, we moved into our house and settled in. We were tired and didn’t do much, we all took a big nap. At night we went to Patpong night market, the most touristic one but it was very close from us, so it was perfect for a first taste of Thailand's night food markets.
We went to several markets, the big Chatuchak where we met Francisco, a cousin currently living in Thailand, and where we had the most delicious paella, yes, we miss Spain and having lunch in a Spanish place felt great! The market is huge and a little overwhelming, streets and streets, stalls and more stalls, but at some point it all looks and feels the same, they all have the same kind of things. We spend an entire day there, got home exhausted.
We had dinner almost every day in the night markets, our favourite was Khao San Road, it was not very crowded (we always went early), the Padtai only cost 0,80€ and the beer was cheap and cold. Even the kids enjoyed this place.
During the day we explored temples and the old part of town. We took a boat on the river that took us to the Grand Palace, we visited the Palace that was full of local people honouring the dead king. There were stalls offering water and food for the duration of mourning period. From there we went to the other famous Wats and kids loved the Reclining Buddha. We wondered around other parts of Bangkok, like chinatown and Siam…
Our days in Bangkok were very hot and tiring, we walked a lot, saw a lot of things and spent a long time in tuktuks in traffic, breathing the horrible smoke from the “road”. It was not my favourite mean of transport, specially having the skytrain so close to us, but the kids always begged us to take one!
Everything was going well until Pedro started crawling with pain, we rushed into the hospital to discover he had kidney stones, A shot of morphine, a few medicines and he was fine… ready for the next one! That’s how we spent our last day in Bangkok! LOL

A avó estava cá! “o pai Natal recebeu a nossa carta! Já é Natal?”,”Como é que a avó coube no saco dele?”. Muitos risos.

LOL
